Marrakesh may be a bargain for the discerning tourists. The two should SEEA in Marrakech, Djemaa el-Fna and souks are free. Frugal, even if canÂ't resist shopping.

The benchmark I use to guide myself is the tower of the Koutoubia Mosque. The tallest of the city, can be seen from anywhere near the Medina, the old city.

The food stalls in the Djemaa el-Fna

From the tower of the Koutoubia Mosque, Djemaa el-Fna Square is only a few steps north.

During the day, this place is full of monkeys dancing, orange juice carts (2 Â-around Dirham U.S. $ 0.54 – A glass of orange juice-note: one common "trick" to tourists is the additional charge, if you want no ice, remember this is a country hot little portable refrigeration, ice is a luxury to the abundance of oranges), and other artists.

But the real action begins at sunset. The food carts out and do business. Published prices are usually for the locals, expect to be charged a higher price if Dona't talk language, especially if Dona't wants to haggle. However you can get a bowl of chickpea soup famous harira basis of 2.5 dirham (approximately $ 0.69 USA). The loaf of bread commonly eaten this soup can be purchased for 1 dirham (U.S. $ 0.27).

The Souks

The souks are a maze of small shops located just off the Djemaa el-Fna. These local offices can be confusing and entrepreneur guides insist that paid are necessary. Unless youÂ're looking for a specific post, not theyÂ're. If you receive a "Lost" just walk in one direction, until you exit.

The souks are one of the best places to buy souvenirs including fabrics, leather shoes, and tagines (the cone of clay dishes to prepare the local cuisine). For spices, grocery stores are a better deal. For best deals, bargain. It expected by traders.

La Menara

You may be tempted to visit the Menara, another free site. We saved the cab fare and walked out there on foot. We were disappointed. Consisted mainily of a giant pool of stagnant water with a small shell of a building. The hotel charges an admission fee.

Unless you have a burning desire to see the olive or a common adolescent Exit site or have too much time on their hands, put their energy to explore other interesting areas of the city.

Marrakech is a fascinating city full of wonderful exotic places and smells and tastes. And with proper planning, that does not have to break your travel budget.
